Did you know that we have calves born year ’round on the farm? There will be about 1,100 or 1,200 calves born each year here at Country Dairy. Calves are born with only one of their 4 stomachs that is developed enough to digest food, which is why they drink milk. Momma cows also produce colostrum right after calving. This is a rich, nutrient dense milk that helps give lots of nourishment to the calf. Colostrum also contains antibodies which helps the calf’s immune system get off to a good strong, healthy start.
